UK’s First Deep Water Shipping Port

The North bank of the river Thames is to see a new container port opening later this year. The London Gateway will be one of Europe’s largest logistics centres, and the Uk’s first deep water shipping port.

The UK’s handling capacity for large container ships will be hugely improved, adding to the existing ports in Felixstowe, Hull, Southampton and Liverpool. 3.5 million TEU will be added the the container handling capacity of the UK.

The port will be able to handle the world’s largest container vessels with the help of 5 new record-breaking cranes. Shipping vessels are becoming bigger every year, and these new cranes will future-proof the port from further developments. They can lift up to 80 tons a time and reach across 25 containers.
