The level of shipping containers fitted with tracking systems grew by 54% in 2012 according to intelligence firm Berg. Although tracking solutions are in their early stages, the growth is a promising sign. It aims at securing assets and increasing operational efficiency, incorporating data logging, satellite positioning and data communication.
With todays technological improvements mean that companies can provide digital connectivity at a reasonable cost. More than 80% of international trade goods are transported via shipping containers, meaning that security and tracking is more important than ever. The industry estimates a growth of 49.1% by 2017 in use of tracking systems in shipping containers.
