Urban Bathhouse

An environmentally minded entrepreneur is hoping to raise money on a crowdfunding website to build a spa and bathhouse.

Nell Waters is appealing for £146,000 on Kickstarter in order to build an “urban bathhouse for healthy hedonists” in San Francisco. The ‘pop up’ spa would be built from shipping containers. It was designed by San Francisco design studio Rebar, and consists of stacked shipping containers, and house changing rooms, toilets, sauna and hot tub.

It would also have a small garden and internal courtyard containing showers and plunge buckets. The Spa’s water supply would be supplemented by rainwater. Blaine Merker from Rebar explained;

“The challenge that we set out in developing this proof of concept prototype is to use absolutely the least amount of water possible, use the least amount of energy possible – we try to catch as much as we can from the sky.”

If the funding target is achieved by January 2014, the design team will aim to build a two-tier shipping container prototype some time the same year.
